The book is designed to supplement standard introductory-level school, college and university texts on mechanics. This is just a maths trick you can do to exponential powers and I personally think it makes the differentiation easier. These two effects just described, the extensive cooling and leakage at low rpm and the reduced (delayed) effective compression pressure at high rpm, are the primary reasons that an engine has a "torque curve".

By the way, the INTENDED usage of Hydrogen in vehicles is quite different from this! I am an Electrical Engineer from India and after going through a few vedio lectures I feel so delighted on the commendable work done by Prof Walter. It should be clear that the measured torque of any engine will be less, because it represents the average of torque developed during that entire 90° of crankshaft rotation, because no other cylinder is yet firing.
